Come on out and hone your shotgun shooting skills at the Ankeny Ikes 5-Stand range on Saturday, July 7 – 9am -2pm

Five Stand is a type of shotgun sport shooting similar to sporting clays, trap and skeet. There are five stations or stands and six or more strategically placed clay target throwers. Shooters shoot in turn at various combinations of clay birds. Each station will have a menu card that lets the shooter know the sequence of clay birds he or she will be shooting at (i.e. which trap the clay bird will be coming from). The shooter is presented with 5 targets at each station, which could be a single bird followed by pairs. Pairs can be either "report pairs," in which the second bird will be launched after the shooter fires at the first; or "true pairs" when both birds launch at the same time. After shooting at the 5 birds on the menu at that station, the shooter proceeds to the next stand, where they find a new menu of 5 targets.

    Cost is $5.00 per round.

Additional 5-stand dates can be found on the Ankeny Ikes Calendar: http://www.ankenyikes.org/pages/google_calendar/

What a great day for 5-stand this past Saturday! The event was very successful, with over 50 shooters for the day. Nobody had to wait very long until the next squad was called to shoot.

The top score was a 22, which was pretty darn good considering the challenging setup. Some of the highlights included one shooter who shot a crossover - #3 and #5 with one shot (I thought that was pretty cool), and the multiple shooters who were able to shoot both #1 (the Zinger) and #2 (the Rabbit) in true pairs.

The next scheduled 5-stand is July 29th during the Swap Meet and Member's Meeting, then August 4th, and every other Saturday through October. Check the calendar for the times and dates, as other events may take precedence. Additionally, we'll also plan to set up the 5-stand on a few Tuesday nights during the open trap to generate more interest among our members and guests.
