The Dragoon Chapter is seeking member volunteers to set up, administer, and run a weekly Five Stand Range at the facility. Duties include the set-up stands and target throwers, operational check of traps, collecting payments, scoring, target operation/range safety, tear-down, storage, target accountability, and basic maintenance of equipment (if needed).

Five Stand is a type of shotgun sport shooting similar to sporting clays, trap and skeet. There are five stations, or stands and six or more strategically placed clay target throwers. Shooters shoot in turn at various combinations of clay birds. Each station will have a menu card that lets the shooter know the sequence of clay birds he or she will be shooting at (i.e. which trap the clay bird will be coming from). The shooter is presented with 5 targets at each station, which could be a single bird followed by pairs. Pairs can be either "report pairs," in which the second bird will be launched after the shooter fires at the first; or "true pairs" when both birds launch at the same time. After shooting at the 5 birds on the menu at that station, the shooter proceeds to the next stand, where they find a new menu of 5 targets.

Feedback provided by members indicate a preference for the 5-stand range to be held on Sundays, however, additional days may be considered . Hours of operation may change pending the amount of member’s interest. Set up and operational checks usually take about an hour and a half, and about a half hour to tear down and store equipment. Three volunteers are needed to effectively run the range – One to collect payments/organize stands, one to score, and one to operate the targets and serve as range safety.

We’re looking for multiple volunteers who can commit to serving a couple weekends per month. We will provide orientation and training on the operation of equipment. If you are interested, please contact Kevin Eppens at eppkm@yahoo.com.
