RANGE SAFETY RULES

THIS IS PRIVATE PROPERTY AND VOLUNTEER MAINTAINED.


A. General Rules and Safety Requirements

1. Treat all firearms as if they are loaded at all times.

2. Keep finger off the trigger until aimed at target.

3. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.

4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

5. No intoxicating substances of any kind or intoxicated people are allowed on the range.

6. Cooperate with others as to “Cease Fire” for target placement and obey all range commands.

7. Call “Cease fire” and make safe all firearms when observing any unsafe condition or when a shooter moves forward of the firing line.

8. The handling of any firearm is not allowed during a “Cease Fire” period.

9. When someone is downrange, the red lights must be activated.

10. Fire at authorized targets only.

11. No Tracer or Incendiary rounds are permitted.

12. Police all brass, paper, and other debris that accumulates on the range. Dispose of them in the containers provided.

13. Use of appropriate ear and eye protection is mandatory for all individuals.

14. Ensure all projectiles impact the berm and within the established range safety limits.

15. Shoot only in the appropriate direction from the designated firing lines.

16. Do not climb on the berms.

17. Children are to be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult at all times.


B. Authorized Targets

1. Use established Target frames only.

2. Only paper and cardboard targets are allowed without prior approval of a range committee member.

3. No ground targets

4. Targets are not to be placed on the side berms.


C. Range Areas

1. Have your club membership card with you at the range.

2. Always lock gates immediately after you enter or exit the facility.

3. Check downrange for other shooters or range maintenance personnel. Do not set up anywhere other than the established firing line.

4. Be prepared to share the range facilities with others. Be cooperative.


IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THESE RULES YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE RANGE.

PLEASE HELP KEEP THE RANGE SAFE AND CLEAN.


Surrounding Farm Land: When the farmer is working the fields surrounding the grounds, ALL ranges are closed. They may or may not have a sign posted at the gate, so it is the responsibility of members to watch for this, and not shoot when field work is in progress. It usually does not take long with the big machinery being used.


Authority: The range committee acting under the authority of the Board of Directors has established range rules to govern the shooting activities at the Dragoon Trail Chapter, Izaak Walton League.

Purpose: The Range Rules and regulations are established to ensure safety and discipline for members and guests on the ranges and property as well as safety for our neighbors and surrounding community.

Enforcement: All members are expected to politely point out to the shooter in violation of these rules, the nature of the violation, request that they stop and report the incident along with the violator.s name to the board.

Penalties: The range committee will review all reports of range violations and after meeting with the member in question, will take one of the following actions:

1. No Action;

2. Verbal Warning;

3. Written Reprimand;

4. Temporary Suspension of membership

5. Revocation of membership
